I hadn’t known exactly what I wanted and had spentweeks looking at venue after venue and magazine after magazine, with nothing really inspiring me. But the moment I saw the photo of Kimberly Crest, it was like the fog of indecision and blah-ness had been lifted. From that one photo, the style of our wedding just fell into place. The style of our wedding is definitely grown-up fairy tale romance. I wanted to keep the elements that made me love fairy tales as a little girl, but without straying into cheesy territory. The location of the ceremony lended all the grandeur needed, with its beautiful landscaped grounds and petit French chateau. We used the phrase “and they lived happily ever after” in a few places, like the aisle runner and a wooden sign that we hung at the entrance to the garden walkway. The bridesmaids carried pumpkins instead of bouquets, as a nod to Cinderella’s pumpkin coach.

The table centerpieces were designed to appear as though they were growing from the table itself. Several centerpieces had pieces that draped from the tabletop towards the floor, to create the illusion that a lush forest had begun to overtake the reception space. For lighting, we placed hundreds of votives and other points of light throughout the room, so that everyone and everything was bathed in soft golden light. Our first dance was “You are the Best Thing” by Ray LaMontagne The dance party that followed was fabulous. One of our guiding principles in planning our wedding was to make sure our guests had a great time. My philosophy was that the ceremony was for us, but the reception was for our guests. We still receive comments from our friends and family that our wedding was one of, if not the best they have ever attended. Seeing everyone having such a good time and hearing about it again afterwards makes all the planning and hard work worthwhile.

Today we’ve got quite the stunning wedding to share. There’s something so rich and charming about autumn weddings, especially when they’re infused with such personal touches and timeless elements. The chuppah that we were married beneath was made of lace and draped over a beautiful white arbor. We did the traditional breaking of the glass, reading from our marriage contract and drank wine from a kiddush cup. Our wedding colors were gray and yellow throughout with a lot of lush greenery in the background. The centerpieces were plain mason jars with gray burlap glued around the middle and seasonal white and yellow flowers .we had soft candlelight in votives as part of the centerpieces as well.

 

Dinner was in a beautiful room off the side of the mansion with windows overlooking the wedding ceremony area and the landscape. We had chandeliers and drapes hanging from the ceiling, fireplaces lit in a couple of the rooms, engagement pictures up of us on the mantles and vintage postcards with messages on them. I’m going to end this week with a sweet wedding photographed.I love the simplicity, down-home feeling !

Allison and Bart had a DIY rustic backyard wedding. I love the lavender bouquets and mismatched bridesmaid dresses.  From Allison: For our April wedding we wanted a California Mediterranean feel with olive branches, lavender, and light pastel colors. We wanted to have our wedding somewhere close by so all of our friends could make it, and so our families from out of town could see the beautiful area where we decided to settle in together. We also wanted to support the local vendors. After looking at pictures of the Portola Inn, we were sold. It had the perfect layout and look, beautiful landscaping backed by oaks and central coast mountain views.

We met Scotty from Scotty’s BBQ outside the local Santa Margarita Tavern and after trying some of his food thought he’d be the perfect fit! We are lucky enough to have some very talented friends, Laura (bridesmaid) made the cake, and she and Chris (the best man) also sang us a duet of “All I Want is You” by Narry Louis Polisar. Bart tried to serenade Allison with an Eric Church song “Love your Love the Most.” Eric Church is slightly better. Our other friend James Martinez (groomsmen) is a pianist for the Shout House of San Diego made the perfect announcer… even if he didn’t get the site name correct
